Birmingham leisure complex Broadway Plaza has launched an exciting year-long campaign to raise money for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s Red Balloon Fundraising.
Called the Little Stars Appeal, Broadway Plaza’s campaign will see tenants at the city centre leisure destination holding a programme of fundraising events, with the highlight being an exclusive premier showing of the new Harry Potter film on July 17.
Management at Broadway Plaza said today they have chosen the hospital as its charity for 2009 as the development stands on the former site of the hospital.
Centre Manager Arthur Webb said: “We have chosen the Children’s Hospital because it is obviously a vital cause and we want to help its little stars. The hospital is also important to us because we stand on its old site – we still have some of its frontage.
“We hope our year of events will raise lots of money and create lots of fun for our customers and staff.”
The fundraising activities kick off this Friday (24) when Broadway Casino holds a Vegas theme night to mark its fourth birthday. Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin will be among the lookalikes and a cheque for £2000 will be officially presented to the hospital.
Other events include special race nights at Bowlplex and a fancy dress day at the award winning Great British Eatery.
The main event of the year will be the Harry Potter night, when 400 lucky fans will attend an exclusive party at Bowlplex before going to see the film premier of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Fidelis Hynam, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, said she was delighted with Broadway Plaza’s pledge of support:
“We have ambitious plans to improve our city centre site so that our young patients are treated in the very best healing environment possible. These plans come under the banner of our Red Balloon Fundraising, and the current project we’re working on our Kidney Kids Appeal which aims to raise £1.5m for a brand new renal unit. So to have the commitment of Broadway Plaza Little Stars Appeal which will boost our own Kidney Kids Appeal is brilliant. I look forward to working with them to make their year of fundraising a huge success!”
