| PATIENTS BOWL AWAY WINTER BLUES | |
Youngsters at Birmingham Children’s Hospital have been keeping warm in the winter weather with trips to the bowling alley.
Bowlplex Ten Pin Bowling centre, at Birmingham’s Broadway Plaza, has arranged the free trips as a special New Year treat for youngsters in the child and adolescent mental health departments.
Occupational Therapist Janet Stubbs said the trips had great benefits for the patients:
“Bowling is a great activity because it’s good fun, energetic and also helps the youngsters socialise with their peers, which many can find quite difficult. It’s also helped them keep warm during the freezing winter weather we’ve had recently.
“We’re really grateful Bowlplex invited us for the free trips, it’s given the patients a great start to 2010.”
Bowlplex general manager Paul Haynes added: “Broadway Plaza stands on the site of the former Birmingham Children’s Hospital and is a supporter of the hospital’s Kidney Kids appeal, so it has been an honour to have the patients here.
“It’s been great to see the youngsters having fun and perfecting their bowling skills and we look forward to seeing them again.”
